Ann Markusen directs the Arts Economy Initiative, University of Minnesota, and is Principal of Markusen Economic Research, annmarkusen.com. Markusen’s research on arts, artists and place include Creative Placemaking, California’s Arts and Cultural Ecology, Crossover: How Artists Build Careers across Commercial, Non-profit and Community Work, Artists’ Centers and The Artistic Dividend. Economist Markusen taught City and Regional Planning for three decades at Berkeley, Northwestern, Rutgers and Minnesota. Winner of the 2006 Alonso Prize in Regional Science, she has served as North American Regional Science Association President, Council on Foreign Relations Senior Fellow, AAAS Committee on Science, Engineering and Public Policy Chair, and Founding Advisory Board Member of SNAAP (Strategic National Arts Alumni Project).
