Mara Hermano, VP, Integrated Planning, oversees accreditation, institutional research, assessment and strategic planning at RISD. She previously served as the president’s chief of staff/AVP for Planning, executive director of Strategic Planning and Academic Initiatives in Academic Affairs, and as special assistant to the president.

After earning a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MA from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, Hermano worked in the press office at Christie’s auction house and as a project manager at the Frick Art Reference Library in New York. Before coming to RISD, she served as special assistant to the dean at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

Hermano is co-editor of The Art of Critical Making: Rhode Island School of Design on Creative Practice (Wiley, 2013) and co-author of At Home with Filipino Art and Artists (Anvil Publishing, 2001). In addition, she served as editor of Spanish Artists from the Fourth to the Twentieth Century: A Critical Dictionary, vols. 3–4 (GK Hall, 1996) and Lamesa: The Filipino Table (Santa Barbara Publishing, 1999).
